Leyva visits Boston area to promote 2013 American Cup

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 12, 2013 – 2012 Olympic all-around bronze-medalist Danell Leyva of Miami/Universal Gymnastics, visited Boston and Worcester, Mass., area gymnastics clubs to build awareness of the 2013 American Cup, scheduled for March 2 at 11:30 a.m. ET at the DCU Center in Worcester. The 2013 American Cup, the United States’ most prestigious all-around international invitational, is a part of the International Gymnastic Federation’s all-around World Cup series.

Leyva spoke with gymnasts, as well as signed autographs and posed for photos, at Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, Gymnastics and More and Exxcel Gymnastics. He also met with various media outlets.

The American Cup format has a field of eight men, including Leyva and his Olympic teammate Jake Dalton of Reno, Nev./University of Oklahoma, and eight women, when 2012 Olympic team gold-medalist Kyla Ross of Aliso Viejo, Calif./Gym-Max, is expected to make her return to competition and a second U.S. woman will be announced later this month.

Ticket prices include facility fees and taxes but do not include convenience fees.

Leyva won the Olympic all-around bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Additionally, he competed in the team finals and the horizontal bar final. Earlier in 2012, Leyva won the AT&T American Cup, as well as the U.S. Olympic Trials, automatically earning a berth to the U.S. Olympic team. Leyva is the 2011 U.S. all-around and World parallel bars champion. He was also a member of the U.S. team that won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships.
